Rev. Dr. Chung Ok Lee
Rev. Lee is Head Minister of Manhattan Temple of Won Buddhism of America, Main
Representative of Won Buddhism International to the United Nations and Co-President
of World Conference on Religion and peace(WCRP). She also serves as Council of
Presidents of the United States Conference on Religion for Peace (USCRP) and International
Coordinating Committee of WCRP Women's Program.
Dr. Lee has served as the Chairperson of the Universal Ethics Millennium Conference
at the United Nations(2000), Expert Group of UNHCHR's International
Consultative Conference on School Education in Relation to Freedom of Religion
or Belief, Tolerance and Non-Discrimination(2001) , Co-President of the
Oslo Conference on Freedom of Religion or Belief in celebration of the 50th Anniversary
of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights(1998), the President of the Committee
of Religious NGOs at the United Nations (1995-1997), Founding Co-Chair of the
Values Caucus at the United Nations for the World Summit on Social Development
(1994-1995), and International Co-President of the Chicago Parliament of World's
Religions (1993).
Dr. Lee has edited
"Vision for a New Civilization: Spiritual and Ethical Values in the New
Millennium" and written various publications and delivered keynote addresses
on topics concerning women's issue, the environment and ecology, human rights,
social development, religious pluralism and global ethics in many international
conferences. She has been actively involved in interreligious dialogue globally
since 1986. Rev. Lee received full ordination in 1981, Korea. She earned her M.A and Ph.D from New York University
